A legacy of tradition, a vision for tomorrow
"When tradition is nurtured with passion and carried forward with purpose, it becomes a legacy."
The years that shaped us
Where it all began
In 1970, a retired gentleman, Purushottam Athavale, and his wife, Sushila Athavale, began preparing authentic Maharashtrian delicacies from their home in Girgaum, Mumbai. It was never merely about making sweets and snacks - it was about preserving family recipes, celebrating Maharashtra's rich culinary heritage, and serving people with honesty, authenticity, and uncompromising quality.
Carrying a legacy to Pune
When the family moved to Pune, they carried with them much more than recipes - they carried a legacy. Milind Athavale and Maitreyee Athavale strengthened that foundation with resilience and dedication. While Milind balanced his career at Tata Motors, both devoted themselves to expanding the family enterprise, introducing new products while preserving the authenticity customers had come to trust.
A brand is born
A defining chapter began when the business adopted the name Athavale's. Around the same time, Shantanu Athavale - a Commerce graduate with a Post Graduate Diploma in Taxation Laws - joined with a clear vision: to preserve Maharashtra's culinary traditions while presenting them to a new generation through modern branding, innovative packaging, and thoughtful product development. His belief that authentic regional food deserves world-class presentation inspired innovations like Chakli Sticks and Cheese Shankarpale.
A brand with global aspirations
Today, Athavale's proudly offers more than 125 products, reaching consumers through retail, modern trade, e-commerce, and exports to 13 countries. Among the family's proudest achievements is the revival of Bhopala Gharge, a treasured Kokanastha Brahmin delicacy - reinforcing Athavale's role not only as a food brand, but as a custodian of Maharashtra's culinary heritage.
The family behind every batch
As the business grew, responsibilities evolved within the family. Milind Athavale leads manufacturing and operations, ensuring every product reflects the highest standards of quality. Maitreyee Athavale oversees purchase, procurement, and human resources, preserving the culture and values that define the organisation. Shantanu Athavale drives sales, marketing, packaging development, and long-term strategy, shaping Athavale's into a modern brand with global aspirations.
Our Athavale's family & team
Taking Maharashtra to the world
While Athavale's has grown from a home kitchen into a modern food enterprise, its philosophy remains unchanged - to honour tradition while embracing innovation. Every recipe carries a story, and every new market is an opportunity to showcase Maharashtra's rich culinary heritage to the world.
The family's aspiration is simple yet ambitious: to establish Athavale's as the global face of authentic Maharashtrian cuisine - not merely by exporting products, but by sharing the flavours, traditions, and stories of Maharashtra with families across the world.
